Dr. Paul Moran

Founder & Executive Chairman

Paul Moran is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Broughton, which he established in 2006 with a clear ambition: to build a life sciences business defined by quality, integrity, and long-term partnership.

With over three decades of experience across the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer health sectors, Paul combines deep scientific grounding with practical commercial leadership. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry and a PhD in Chemistry / Biotechnology from the University of Huddersfield, is a Chartered Chemist, and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Paul began his career in Quality Control at Johnson & Johnson before progressing into senior operational and analytical leadership roles, where he also achieved Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt certification. He later supported the successful growth of a contract laboratory through to its merger in 2005. These formative experiences shaped his belief that sustainable success is built on strong teams, trusted customer relationships, robust quality systems, and disciplined science - combined with an entrepreneurial and inquisitive approach to solving complex problems.

Since founding Broughton, Paul’s focus has been on setting clear direction, anticipating market change, and creating an environment where talented people can develop and do their best work. He is particularly passionate about building long-term strategic partnerships and evolving the business in line with changing customer needs.

For Paul, the most fulfilling part of his role remains meeting great people - clients, suppliers, colleagues, and collaborators - and bringing them together to build something meaningful, resilient, and enduring.

Outside of work, Paul enjoys travelling with his family, walking and connecting with nature, playing golf, and continually trying to improve at surfing and kitesurfing while exploring new places.
