The market has grown signiﬁcantly since TPD2 was ﬁnalized in 2013. The Directive entered into force on 19 May 2014 and became applicable in the EU Member States on 20 May 2016. This TPD2 legislation is due to be reviewed by the EU Commission in early 2022 to adapt the regulations and align with the rapidly evolving next-generation products (NGPs) market. It is anticipated an agreement on the new TPD3 revised terms will be reached in line with the European 2024 elections.
